Antares Audio Technologies heeft Auto-Tune 7 gelanceerd. De producers van de zangeres Cher gebruikten in 1998 Auto-Tune als geheim wapen bij het maken van de track Believe waarin het effect voor het eerst werd gebruikt. Sindsdien is het niet meer weg te denken uit de muziekindustrie. Het wordt ook nu nog door vele populaire artiesten succesvol uitgemolken.
De belangrijkste toevoeging aan Auto-Tune 7 is het nieuwe tijdscorrectie- en manipulatiesysteem. Naast de toonhoogte kan nu ook de timing van de zang of instrumenten worden aangepast in de grafische interface. Verder is er een waslijst aan kleinere verbeteringen doorgevoerd.
Auto-Tune mag als de industriestandaard worden gezien, maar het is de vraag of de prijs van $400 nog gerechtvaardigd is. Ondertussen zijn er meer softwareprogramma’s waarmee je het Cher-effect kunt maken of andere toonhoogte-correcties kunt toepassen. Bijvoorbeeld een paar sequencers hebben standaard toonhoogte- en timingcorrectie in huis (Cubase, Record), of voegen deze functionaliteit binnenkort toe met een nieuwe update (FL Studio).

The most important addition to Auto-Tune 7 is the new time correction and manipulation system. The time control capabilities are integrated into the graphical mode interface, which allow users to edit the timing of their vocals or other instruments right along with their pitch. Auto-Tune may be seen as the industrial standard, but one might question the high $400 price tag. The last decade several competitors appeared with similar functionality. For example a few sequencers now have pitch and timing correction included (Cubase, Record), or will add it soon with future updates (FL Studio).
