Een tijdje geleden introduceerde Korg met de nanoSERIES een drietal kleine usb-midicontrollers voor de mobiele laptopmuzikant. Het keyboard hiervan, de nanoKEY, kreeg veel kritiek over de speelbaarheid. Korg beantwoordt deze kritiek met de introductie van de microKEY voor Windows en Mac OS. Deze is weliswaar een maatje groter, maar waarschijnlijk wel stukken beter speelbaar dan de nanoKEY.
De microKEY is een usb midi-keyboard met 37 kleine toetsen, een pitch- en modulatiewiel en twee knoppen om een octaaf hoger of lager te selecteren. Het keyboard haalt zijn voeding uit de usb-poort van de computer en beschikt over twee usb-ingangen om andere usb-apparaten op aan te sluiten. Zo fungeert de microKEY als een usb-hub voor andere apparatuur, bijvoorbeeld een controller of muis. Handig als je laptop niet over al te veel usb-poorten beschikt.
Met de speelbaarheid van de toetsen zit het waarschijnlijk wel goed. Deze zijn rechtstreeks overgenomen van de microKORG XL synthesizer. This feature could be most welcome when your notebook is equipped with only a few usb connections.
The playability will probably be good. The keys are the same as those found on the microKORG XL and microSTATION synthesizers. The microKEY will be shipped in about two months and costs around € 89.
